In glyphosate resistant (GR) crops the bacterial CP4 ESPS gene has been inserted.  However, the kinetics of that enzyme are not as good as the one already in the plant.  So, when the plant is treated with glyphosate and the carbon is moving to the Shikimic pathway via the CP4 ESPS, is it entering the Shikimic pathway at a slower rate than it would through the native enzyme?  Could this be a reason for the often observed temporary slowing in growth of the plant?
