Chennai houses the Industrial manufacturing giants in the country, such as Micro, Small, Medium & large level firms. More than 65% of heavy vehicles produced in the country, such as cars, buses, lorries, trains, bicycles, and construction equipment are produced in Chennai. Among these the subsidized large level MNCs firms were selected for the present study because of its market stability and continuity in investments. Based on their annual turnover the first four similar types of firms were selected from six identified firms to generalize the research results. The population (total; N=1535) was shop floor employees; since the population is ordered the sample 20% from each firms (total; n=307) was selected through systematic sampling technique. The standard tools were identified based on the research aim and it was translated to local language (Tamil), the questionnaire method was adopted to get the answers for the research questions. The study data were collected only once from each firms, perhaps over a period of one months. Therefore, this study can be called as cross-sectional in nature.
The collected data was analyzed using SPSS version.20; certain statistical analysis was done in order to test the hypothesis, to find out the significant association Chi-square test was used; correlation was used to find out the strength of relationship; to find out the significance of difference between means of two independent samples the t-test was used; ANOVAs’ test was used to examine whether there exists any discrepancy among different variables; and also Regression was used to find out the statistical relationship between two or more variables to understand the predictors of organizational commitment as well as job satisfaction.
Hence, this process clearly shows that, the research umbrella for the present study is “correlation research design”, because the researcher was trying to find out the existing causal relationship between the variables (Independent and Dependent). Finding out relationship among variables in the descriptive research process is labeled as correlation study which, according to Cooper and Schindler (2003), is a subset of descriptive study.
