As far as I know the PEG layer (or other functional group) can be formed in two ways on the surface of nanoparticles: mushroom or brush. Does this formation depend on whether the nanoparticle surface be flat or curved? in the other word, is the any relation between configuration of PEG layer and the shape of nanoparticle?
Yes, in my opinion the shape and surface area affect grafting density which induce mushroom or brush formation. In addition, it also depends on the interaction with solvent, molecular weight of the PEG, and functional groups.

Good question
Generally metalic and ceramic particles are rough and poros surface. These surface coating reagents will modify the surface of the nano particles with unifrom sperical shape. And also the grafting density may change according to the chemical affinity of particle.
Surface topography and morphology of the particles will decide the available surface area and thereby the bonding or active sites and therefore the surface chemistry matters most in terms of its interaction with other reagents or binding ability with like PEG here.
