Reasoning is one of the foundations of science, and one of the thrusts of science education has been to “instil the disciplinary habits of the mind of the scientist” (Kind & Osborne, 2017).
However, as argued by Kind and Osborne (2017), despite the importance and richness of reasoning in science, science education has yet to conceptualise and characterise scientific reasoning in the classroom in a way that is reflective of the epistemic practices of science.
Do you think the focus dhould be kept or should we move to aims that are divergent to this such as scientific literacy, prime aims of physics centered (explanation, description if external reality) instruction ?
