Is that possible to develop simple VR for research purposes by a psychologist with minimal technical knowledge? - Yes. To do it efficient, I recommend organize special lessons/training/course during which you encourage them to use VR through for example: showing them possibilities, show that it is not difficult to use VR (or that benefits outweigh the effort put into the learning), maybe using gamification, show that there is a lack of scientists with such competences ad it is opportunieties to them, that with these knowledge there will be "wanted for/by projects" . And after that show, that it need a little bit of technical knowledge ;)
Yes - it could be hard, but that is why we are teachers and tutors: to teach youth difficult subjects in the easiest and enjoyable manner/way.
