The necessity and range of teacher training depends a lot on the aim and institution's vision. If it is the (emergency) remote teaching that is planned, the short "teacher's manual" would be enough, as the only thing needed is to spread technical skills among teaching staff - how to teach in the same way, using different digital tools. But, if the real e-learning is wanted, teacher training is not only essential, I would say it's crucial. E-learning is far more than technology, as its different learning environment requires different design of the whole learning process - outcomes, assessment, activities, methods. Thus, also experienced teachers need to be trained, to get accustomed to new challenges, which they will face driving their activity from teaching itself to fostering learning in this student-centred world of distance learning. To conclude, results of the short survey regarding the willingness of continuing full online or blended learning courses among the faculty at my University show, that those instructors, who are trained in e-learning design are 22x (yes, twenty-two times) more likely to do it, than their not trained colleagues.

Distance learning and education, in general, can be successful only if the educator is sufficiently trained and technically supported. It is not something simple, as designing and implementing digital teaching scenarios demands plenty of skills, time and effort, much more than required in face- to- face teaching.

I think that teacher training is essential, yes. But I dont think it should be about new technologies. The main issue in distance learning is that teachers and students and in some cases practical learing ressources are not in the same place, they are connected with each other through internet, social interaction is no longer present and many students could lose interest. Teachers should be trained to compensate the element of "distance", so I thinkg that a new kind of "pedagogy" discipline should be taught to instructors. In my opinion, because we didn't take "distance learning" seriously before, it can not be effective during the pandemic

You cannot teach what you do not have. Teachers should undergo training in using virtual classroom and other applications that will best deliver learning in online delivery mode. In fact, if technical problems will happen during online class, simple troubleshooting techniques can be performed by the teachers so learning may continue. Meanwhile, I am on my series of training in familiarizing and utilizing available online platforms and I have hard time managing them. It really takes time and effort.
