I'm guessing you found your answer long ago but just in case: it depends on the type. SYBR Green 1 is for dsDNA and SYBR Green 2 is for ssDNA. That said, SYBR green 1 CAN be used for ssDNA but preferentially binds to dsDNA. More information at the links below.

Totally I can say that SYBR preferentially binds to dsDNA, but will stain ssDNA with lower performance. SYBR can also stain RNA with a lower performance than DNA.
