Extrusion of open profile results in the Surface. If the profile is open but forked as shown in the picture, some CAD packages do not create the extruded surfaces in one go, but need to do it multiple times, one at a time. But is there any CAD packages that does it in a single go.
Yes, there are several CAD software available, e.g. CATIA from Dassault Systemes in the workbench "Generative Shape Design".

I am not getting it working in CATIA, Inventor and Creo. If anyone has seen it working, can you specify the steps and/or post the picture?
The profile has to be composed of single elements. In case of your example: single lines. See the picture attached, which shows the solution in CATIA.

If the profile is drawn as one connected sketch, it is required to extract the single element (in this case a line) before extrusion - see the picture below as an example in CATIA.

That's the problem. Two branches also work, as it makes a continuously connected surface. But getting three surfaces connected, in a single feature does not look possible.
You have to extract the specific branch befor extracting the surface. In CATIA, this is very easy to do with the function"Extract".
