I would vote against further splenectomy on the basis of uneventful successful embolization.
Thank you Dr. Kok.
It seems logical that after successful embolization and the patient is free of symptoms to leave well alone without further surgery.
However, if the embolization is partially successful, is there a place for another session of embolization?
Dear Prof. Meshikhes, second embolization may sometimes be needed for better control of disease. Attached please find an article published by the M.D. Anderson group.
Thank you Dr. Kok for the informative article. Most appreciated.
I agree with Dr. Alghamdi that: No surgery is indicated if surgery is risky.
However, Surgery is indicated if:
1. Embolization failed.
2. Malignancy is suspected.
3. Abscess develops after embolization, if it can not be drained byinterventional radiology.
4. Facilities and expertise for embolization is not readily available.
