Some studies recognize the SEM-EDS technique as an alternative to discriminate particles with strong C peaks from minerals and other organics. However, is the EDS spectrum sufficient to give insights concerning the polymer identity of the analyzed particle ?

I believe SEM-EDS could be a very interesting qualitative and quantitative analysis to help you characterize microplastics in terms of composition and morphology, but in a complementary way to spectroscopic analyses such as FTIR and Raman.
