I do not understand if pyocyanin is a betaine compound (alkaloid group family being zwitterionic at neutral state) then how is it also a phenazine compound?. Is pyocyanin secreted by plants that it is also an alkaloid?. Betaine composes glycine amino acid and some amino acids are zwitterionic. Pyocyanin has a metabolic precursor that is a betaine molecule beforehand in its biosynthetic pathway of chorismic acid to PCA to enzyme conversion to pyocyanin.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa secretes pyocyanin mainly as its unique compound.
