Lack of IF on the website should not be a deterrent, but you should be sure that its not a predatory journal. Recently, a few journals from Hindawi were identified as predatory journals.
Publishing their can lead to reputational loss and no benefits.
Gautam Agrawal Thank you, Sir, for the information. The International Journal of Microbiology (Hindawi), is listed in the Web of Science (WOS) index and indexed in Scopus and DOAJ, and have a cite score of greater than 4 in 2023, so would you think it will still lead to reputational loss publishing in this Journal.
One little correction when it comes to the predatory comment by Gautam Agrawal Indeed Clarivate has delisted a number of titles (including numerous titles published by Hindawi) from the WoS indexing (see enclosed file). However, this has nothing to do with being predatory or not.
Although Clarivate is not that transparent about the criteria how and why certain titles are delisted it has most likely to do with excessive use of published number of special issues and the indication that journals cannot handle such quantities of published papers (in terms of proper review, checking for plagiarism, presence of paper mills, etc.).
When it comes to the journal “International Journal of Microbiology” I see a number of reassuring things:
-The journal is not delisted by Clarivate and indexed in the ESCI index which can be checked here https://mjl.clarivate.com/home
-Clarivate’s ESCI indexing means no impact factor (until now only journals indexed in SCIE/SSCI index have an impact factor)
-Looking at the ‘Scopus content coverage’ they never published excessively (https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/19900193845 )
Indeed, as you stated yourself the Scopus indexing, listed by DOAJ (and the ESCI indexing) makes this journal a pretty safe choice.
Thank you for enlightening me with valuable information about the Web of Science, its impact factor, and the reputation of the International Journal of Microbiology. I appreciate your efforts in shedding light on the criteria for delisting journals and the potential concerns associated with the excessive publication of special issues. I am reassured to learn that the International Journal of Microbiology has not been delisted by Clarivate and is indexed in the ESCI. I understand that this indexing does not currently provide an impact factor, which is typically associated with journals indexed in the SCIE or SSCI. Nevertheless, the fact that the journal is indexed in ESCI is a positive indication of its recognition and inclusion in the scientific community. Furthermore, I am pleased to see that the journal's content coverage on Scopus has been consistent, indicating responsible publishing practices. The journal's presence in the DOAJ and its Scopus indexing further support its credibility and reliability. Once again, thank you for sharing this information and providing additional insights into the reputation and indexing of the International Journal of Microbiology. Your input has been invaluable in helping me make an informed decision.
International Journal of Microbiology claims an IF on its website
You should look at some of the articles in the target journal - are they scientifically sound and edited appropriately (syntax, design, are they generally relevant to your proposed article, etc.). Consider the audience - International Journal of Microbiology the international not withstanding, not sure it's that well known inter nationally.
You might look for a journal more focused on the subject of your work. These offer better review in contex.
Dear Sudeep Poudel The impact factor as indicated by Phil Geis is legit. Since June 2023 Clarivate assigned journals indexed in their ESCI database an impact factor, as announced for example here https://clarivate.com/blog/mapping-the-path-to-future-changes-in-the-journal-citation-reports/
The journal is as indicated in their own indexing info https://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijmicro/ai/ still indexed in Clarivate’s Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) and has an impact factor of 3.4
Best regards.
PS. Unfortunately nobody here on RG seems to have the JCR report list with the IF of all ESCI titles (yet).
