Dear Colleagues: FAO/GSP has launched a survey on soil pollution for the Assessment of the global status and regional trends of soil pollution, please fill it up and feel free to share it. This will be a first step to coordinated efforts for risk mitigation, remediation and will contribute to achieve several of the sustainability development goals.

A few years earlier, 1948, severe industrial air pollution, created a deadly smog that asphyxiated 20 people in Donora, Pennsylvania and made 7000 more sick. Acid rain, first discovered in the 1850s, was another problem resulting from coal - powered plants, Nov 6, 2009. There 4 majors of pollution, light pollution, littering, noise pollution, plastic pollution, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, thermal pollution, visual pollution, water pollution. Pollution is a bad thing because along with harming human health, air pollution can cause a variety of environmental effects: Acid rain is precipitation containing harmful amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids. These acids are formed primarily by nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned. Air pollution is bad for health, but good for the planet. Along with carbon dioxide, power plants spew chemicals like nitrogen and sulfur into the air. Reducing this pollution is good for our lungs but might actually cause an increase in global warming.

Pollution-related diseases are an increasing, and often neglected, global problem. Pollution-related diseases were responsible for 9 million premature deaths in 2015 – three times as many deaths as AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. 15 times more than from all wars and other forms of violence.

Yeah the pollution is destroying our home (earth) not just earth but also our health
Yes, pollution is a real problem, everyone in the world is facing one or several types of pollution problems (soil, water, air). People living in and around New Delhi (India) and Beijing (China) suffer from air pollution in the winter months. Similarly, people living in West Bengal (India) suffer from heavy metal contamination from arsenic due to the ingestion of contaminated food and water. Some people living near the industrial area suffer from multiple problems with pollutants such as soil, water and air. I think these are the very important issues that are being considered for documentation on a global scale.
Of course, when we talk about pollution we are talking about climate change, environmental deterioration, natural ressources depletion, health problems, food and water quality depletion ... among others impact of pollution
Pollution is the source of all environmental problems that we are curentlly facing which impact indirectly the vital sectors (social and economical sectors) and harm the human life ...

Thanks for your replies, please note that the survey is targeted to all of you that are concerned with the topic of pollution, scientist and practicioners, policymarkers and academics, etc., just skip the questions that you do no know. As people of science it is just a matter of responsability for our future generations that would look back at us someday, it is up to of us now, the way they will look.
