Is Parasitology discipline a part of Microbiology?
Several textbooks enrolls Parasitology discipline within the science of Microbiology, in addition to other numerous sub-disciplines including bacteriology, virology, mycology, and Molecular biology. However, in most academic institutions in Iraq, Parasitology is not a part of Microbiology but it categorized within the science "Zoology" since most of parasitic members are macroscopic like helminthes.
My question is: which is the suitable categorization of parasitology, within Microbiology or within Zoology?

What a good question! As much as parasitology is a stand alone discipline due to the distinctive nature of parasite characters, I am of the opinion that since most parasites are microscopic, it is generally under the umbrella of microbiology. On the other hand, zoology being the study of animals and what affects their well being, it is logical to take zoology as a roof that house all disciplines under microbiology including other relevant disciplines.

Yes I would like to believe that it should be part of microbiology as well because a couple of microbes (~20% known species) happen to be parasitic. I think it is a relevant microbiological sub-topic. But only as a way to better elucidate the parasitology of the known parasitic microbes. It is a sub-topic of bacteriology, mycology and virology.
I think parasitilogy is the main branch of microbiology especialy unicellular organisms
parasitology is a multidisciplinary branch, it is involved in microbiology, mycology, virology, zoology and even in agronomy (phytopathogenic organisms).
