In short: when it comes the journal “PalArch's Journal of Archaeology of Egypt/ Egyptology” it is clear that Scopus is ‘struggling’ with this journal https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100286805 you can see this by looking at the coverage that looks odd (just click on ‘Scopus content coverage' where you can see that between 0-3 papers a year are indexed).
Best regards.
Update July 2022: The Scopus link now mentions discontinued https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100286805
Good point, but the thing is that ‘normally’ Scopus discontinue such a title (with also the message discontinued like for example https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100899502). That’s what I meant with ‘struggling’. Hijacked journals are a serious problem and Scopus is having troubles with them (acting slowly etc.). See for example the discussions:
Keep in mind that SCImago is based on Scopus data and is only updated once a year. Furthermore, they keep showing info (citations etc.) of a journal up to three years after discontinuation. See for example the statement made by the SCImago team here https://www.scimagojr.com/journalsearch.php?q=21100212600&tip=sid&clean=0
So, SCImago is NOT reliable when it comes to up-to-date info about a journal. The discontinuation is found and indicated in the following order:
-First in the so-called Scopus source list which can be found here https://www.scopus.com/home.uri you can look for the Scopus discontinued titles (this list is updated 4 or more times a year)
-Then in the Scopus sources website which can be found here https://www.scopus.com/sources.uri?zone=TopNavBar&origin=searchbasic (this message appears a few months after that it is mentioned in the list of discontinued titles)
-Ultimately the message of discontinuation appears in SCImago https://www.scimagojr.com/ if just updated (somewhere in June every year) it can take up to a year before the message will appear
So don’t use SCImago and do read previous replies. This particular journal is the victim of hijacking, and you are at risk to publish in the fake version of the journal (this would mean no indexing even when the journal is indexed since you publish in the wrong/fake version).
Best regards.
