I feel like I am going down a metaphorical rabbit hole with my research... I recently started to get confused as to what I am actually doing etc. I used narrative inquiry as a method to find out what the experiences are of postgraduate students in the UK... I decided to use an interpretive epistemology , which also is my theoretical approach instead of phenomenology... And narrative analysis as an analysis framework ... I'm now stuck at which aspect of narrative analysis I have used ... I firstly chose structural narrative analysis but then for some reason I have also completed thematic narrative analysis too... I was told to think of a new theoretical framework by my supervisors... but social constructivism doesn't work .... Realism / subjectivism is my ontological perspective... A few weeks ago my supervisors suggested that I add a theoretical framework. but I have been studying this for over two years and now I am in a muddle as this is the first time that they have raised this with me.
The mention of a new theoretical framework has me constantly questioning my thesis.. and the choices I have made... I am now thinking of including narrative theory.. and dropping something... But I cannot see the wood through the trees and I cannot move forward until I resolve this confusion. I have spent hundreds of hours looking at all aspects of qualitative methodology, theoretical frameworks and theoretical approaches. Please help!
