Can a single RF chain be used to use non-contiguous part of spectrum in one direction i.e. uplink or downlink? (either inter-band or intra-band)

I do not really have the electronics background to know for sure, but I would think that there are many factors, including how widely separated the frequencies/bands are

Harmonics might not be too hard with a single transmitter, because they are generated anyway and usually need to be suppressed. Are you really transmitting simultaneously on different frequencies, or using a "frequency hopping" technique?
