I would like to know if it is feasible to measure the efficiency of Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushroom) as a biosorbent for lead before and after (around one month) cultivating it in an artificial environment for soil with high lead content.
This is a way of simulating the condition of a specific land site that is known to have high lead content near Laguna de Bay, Philippines. Conditions such as sunlight, soil pH, oxygen/carbon dioxide ratio, and other abiotic factors will be considered.
Why dont you just make a mass balnce: Pb in soil vs Pb retrieved by the fungi?
But my forecast is that you will be amazed how little of total Pb stock you can remove with the fungi!
Your experimental setup is not so clearly described, but I assume you want to test the ability of the Oyster mushroom to absorb Pb in artificial contaminated soil?
Sure, such an experiment would be feasible, however, the mobility of the Pb in the soil will be a major factor and unless you are simulating the saturated zone it may be a limiting factor.
Also, you must be clear on the analytical procedure, but I guess you have it pinned down!
