Sania, Islam holds that Muhammad's visions presented a true reality as they came from god, therefore his visions represented a superior reality to that which went before. Therefore the Bible and Gospels represent an inferior reality that Islam has displaced.

In that fashion, rewriting the story of Mary and replacing the Mary of the Gospels with a doppelganger merely constitutes this new and more authentic reality.
