Mary, the mother of Jesus, hardly figures in the Gospels but takes a greater presence in the Qur'an. They do not resemble one another, nor play similar roles (Maryam occupies a symbolic role not visible in the Gospels but introduced later in much later text.) There are some elements of Maryam that suggest much earlier religions.

El-Sayed, I acknowledge the connection between Christianity and Egyptian religion but bear in mind in Egypt around the time of Jesus there was Adonis who was engaged in preaching similar ideas to the Jesus figure. Most if not all Mark's time in Egypt is detailed by Eusebius, centuries later. Although there is immense probability in your understanding of Egyptian religion, creation myths were subject to cities, and political supremacy. You appear to have focused on some and neglected many others. The Ra myth has to be disentangled from various city narratives. Horus appears or could be the first deity, or state one, allied with kingship. In fundamental myths to do with resurrection, of which Osiris was the proponent, Ra controlled its implementation. Of course, there was considerable syncretism, which served to develop ideas, the province of symbols, so Ra and Atum were one. Khepri represented one aspect of the sun, each natural event was represented by a god. Khepri was the creator god in some parts of Egypt.
I certainly dispute your dichotomies as Egyptian thinking was remarkably sophisticated and unlike many ancient Middle Eastern societies, women tended to be active in the public arena, and were highly regarded and influential.
Nevertheless, i cannot see Maryam as identical to Mary. For example, in the Hebrew version Mary is not fundamentally chaste and the Maryam story reflects later stories, at best, on Mary. There is nothing in the gospels to back up Mary and the fig tree, a fertility symbol. This appears compiled from much earlier religions represented the two goddesses mentioned. It has a symbolic context.
I cannot help thinking that the sections involving Jesus, who is nothing like Jesus in the Gospels (the Qur'an Jesus committed to family which he was not) and those involving Mary, distinctly different from the Gospel stories where Mary is on the one hand an ordinary mother with other children and on the other a continuation of goddesses (purity, chastity, etc), in a likely inclusion in the Bible to provide Mary with a supernatural background. She is indeed the Egyptian mother (Osiris/Horus ), Ishtar, Astard, etc. Providing an introduction into religion for polytheistic based goddesses and feminine atributes. It seems to me that the writer (s) of the Qur'an had limited knowledge of the Gospels, especially of the Jesus figure, whom they completely misunderstood.
The son of Maryam (Mary)’, whereas only one text in the Gospels, has referred to Jesus as ‘Son of Mary’ (Mark 6:3). Quranically the appellation ‘Son of Mary’ is added to the name of Jesus to denote the humanity of Jesus on the one hand, and to acknowledge his miraculous birth without a father, on the other and yes same figure the mother of Jesus as Maryam is mentioned in Quran.
In the Gospels, Mary does not wander off to give birth. Are you certain, Sania?
Sania, Islam holds that Muhammad's visions presented a true reality as they came from god, therefore his visions represented a superior reality to that which went before. Therefore the Bible and Gospels represent an inferior reality that Islam has displaced.
In that fashion, rewriting the story of Mary and replacing the Mary of the Gospels with a doppelganger merely constitutes this new and more authentic reality. But the Mary of the Qur'an is most definitely not the Mary of the Gospels, merely inserted as that new, superior, dominant reality. A slight of hand in fact.
