It is observed that most self-publishing publishers are active in the publishing sector/market. Browsing through such publishers' portal is sometimes quite impressive. They published a good number of books almost in all fields. Some are well-established authors who also opted for publications.
It depends on your objectives. You can publish and it is good I will say if you can sell by yours or want to establish yourself as author. I have published two books from Notion press, my experience is good and my books are available at all major online stores, getting sold. What else I need from xpress publishing i.e. without any charge!
It used to be that using a self-publisher meant your book was not good enough for a regular publisher. I believe that has changed a lot. In fact, I think the day will come when the self-publishing system will be primary. The two systems now use the same online resources to market the books. Self-publishers offer similar services like editing, book cover design, and marketing. As you say, their books look impressive.
Regular publishers have a following especially in key markets like textbooks, but the financial return from regular publishers for authors is small unless the book is a best seller. There is a financial investment upfront for self-publishers but the author owns all the rights and the royalty percentage is much greater.
I have had 4 books published by regular publishers who charged me no fees. Some of them were bought out by other publishers where I lost my contact. The books are still being sold but there are no checks in the mail. It's hard to find someone to talk to within some of the companies for any reason and they own the rights to the books. My next book is being published by a self-publisher where I will own the total rights to the book. For me right now it's an option I'm willing to try. I believe as self-publishing gets more popular their prices will go up.

I am in support of self publishing as you can save more time and nowadays many publishers give great help in editing and marketing like notion press and white falcon publishing
It depends on your objective of publishing the work, the services that the self-publisher is offering. If they can not review, edit, design your work then it is not worth it.
First review the services of the self-publisher.
Definitely i will go for self publishing.. to save my time and energy...but care has to be taken..where we are publishing our books..journals..projects and oll...that publishing sector should have gained good will in the market...one work prior to publishing any material of ours, is to do analysis of publishing sector first...rest is okay...
