Is it unprofessional to add self citation when it might not be really necessary?

Hi all!

I have a tendency to slip in some of my previous works in my papers as I want others to get to know some of my other researches as well. While I am guilty of this, I find it annoying when it is practiced by others.

I think, there should be a limit to self citation, say no more than 10 % of all citations. So you can only cite 10 of your previous works if you have 100 citations.

I appreciate your opinion on this
