Based on the attached picture, is it possible for the fluorescence probe (carbon dots) to quench all the heavy metal ions with slightly different values or there is some thing wrong with the reading and it is suppose to be selective determination. Please help.
Hi Mohammed, it is unlikely that your fluorescent probe is being specifically quenched by all these cations. I would suggest that you do baseline measurements with increasing Na+ to see how it changes with increasing ionic strength.
Also, a sure way to determine if the heavy metal binding is specific is to do saturation binding experiments for these metals. If it saturates, it is specific. If it does not saturate, it is non-specific.
