Is it possible to successfully cryopreserve mammalian cells in Liq N after cooling in minus 20 freezer?

Hi, can anyone tell me if it is possible to successfully store mammalian cell lines that have been cooled in a minus 20 mechanical freezer before storage in liquid nitrogen. I do not have access to a minus 80 at the moment.
