I would like to solve a heat balance eq using the " Heat Transfer in Fluid (HTF) " physics in a 1D line (Blue selection in image1) in 2D geometry. The problem is with 2D geometry and HTS physics I am not able select a single line as Domain. I can only select a 2D domain (Green in Image 2).
How can i select 1D line as domain for HTF physics in a 2D geometry.
NOTE: I am aware of the "Boundary ODE and DAE" physics. But the convective term in this method is not stabilized. So that is ruled out.

Dear Cyrill, it would be easier if you explain the physical problem you are trying to simulate and what is happening on the line that you select in Figure 1. You can solve the heat in solid/fluids in all the 2D geometry and apply the proper boundary condition on the line (say constant temperature, heat flux or heat power source, ...). However, you cannot physically solve the heat balance eq for a single line and ignoring what is happening in the surrounding domain.

No, as per your question, it is not possible. Because you are talking about domain. Few suggestions for you that I have understood from your question.
1. You are solving a 2D heat transfer problem. You can solve this using 1D space dimension in comsol.
2. Line can be use as a contact surface between two domain. It can not be used as a domain in this case.
However, you can explain your problem details to get a valid and exact answer.

Hello, I may be wrong, but isn't it that simple as to just put some algebraic constraint on 2D coordinates? This would select a line, y=ax+b, say. Continuity demands would provide that the heat-flow on this line is just the heat-flow on a whole domain, constrained to the chosen line.
Baldassarre Venezia My system has an air channel (Thin blue selection in Capture.PNG) over Solid desiccant (Grey rectangle.) The 1D model with 4 Equations
1. Heat balance in air (1D in X direction) - HT in Fluids (HTF)
2. Heat Balance in desicant (1D in X direction) - HT in Solid (HTS)
3. Mass balance in air (1D in X directing) - Transport of Dilute species _air (TDS_air)
4. Mass Balance in desiccant (1D in Y direction) - Transpt of Dilute species _Solid
All the balance Eq. are individually 1D but both together, strictly speaking, its a pseudo 2D model.
I would like to solve (1-3 eq) in the blue selection (1D in X) and eq 4 in solid rectangle (1D in Y )
How can i select 1D line as domain for HTF, HTS, TDS_air physics in a 2D geometry.

Cyrril Joseph, in COMSOL you need to build domains for all the materials you use. Start by building a geometry for the air (another rectangle on top which shares the blue line that you pointed in the picture) and then define the boundaries for it (inlet, outlet and temperature) and same for the desiccant. At the interface (blue line) you will need to define the boundary conditions (e.g. inlet of air). In the desiccant domain you will have to specify what is happening to the air, so I suppose it is going to solve the transport in porous media. Hope this helps.
