I have heard that the shampoo which is about to expire can be recycled into to cleaning agents etc. Is that possible ? What is the process? Also, most of shampoo has oil in it. So, how will the oil be removed? Will it be through chemical dispersion?
Oil from old shampoo can be removed by extraction with hexane or ptroleum ether. Shampoo and ptroleum ether are vigorously mixed, then separated on a separating funnel (in the laboratory), the extract is separated from the aqueous shampoo solution. Ether is distilled from the extract. The remaining oil is used for heating or other purposes.
