I am trying to control the shape and morphology of barium oxide powders through co-precipitation method and a capping agent. I am limited in the choice of solvent (water) and the method (co-ppt). The general reaction yield is low owing to the high solubility of Ba(OH)2 in water. The only way I found to work is using alkali carbonate solutions. However, they afford rather poor control over the shape and size of precipitates.

Hence, I was wondering if someone has previously attempted to precipitate such compounds through high-temperature dissociation of urea in water. Any advice in this regard is highly appreciated.
