Given the scenario that we have negatively influenced occupancy of a wild animal by our daily activities; when we stop these activities, we notice that wildlife reclaim some of the areas. When I say daily activities, I mean the use of vehicles, rapid mass transport, noise and light pollution. In impact assessments, this baseline effect should be measured. Further, any other specific factor, such as, mining, hunting or felling should be additively scored. A way of partitioning the anthropogenic factors will help in addressing this.
