If the question relates to peaks of different retention time but showing a similar SIM pattern then isomeric forms of nominal compounds will often elute separately. For instance for a range of synthetic pyrethroid pesticides there are cis and trans configurations for examplef permethrin that elute as two clearly resolved peaks on a 30 metre, DB5, 0.25 um column . Like wise cypermethrin has four configurational isomers in the commercial mix of cypermethrin that elute as four separate peaks . Fungicides propiconazole, difenoconazole and dimethomorph also have configurational isomers which elute separately. These are specific example but a considerable range of organic compounds have configurational isomers that will separate under normal capillary GC conditions.
if the compound consists of impurities then it will have multiple peaks or if the compound consists of multiple components then also it will have multiple peaks
