While I understand the reference to sacrifice and blood as it is indeed an essential element certainly in early Christian thinking, there is indeed evidence that the early Hebrews sacrificed children as many cultures in the 1st and 2nd centuries believed that Christians did. The symbolic nature of bloodletting concerns quite early concepts of the connection between blood and life, connected also to the Greeks odd ideas as expressed within the Four Humours.
Salvation connected to bloodletting is nevertheless odd, and in the end salvation from what? Our sins? In fact sins is just another word for living for the majority of us.Why this connection to blood, bloodletting and sacrifice? It is hard to find any of this in the Gospels.
