I want to manufacture a composite boring bar as a part of my research work. For that I need the value of hardness of some composites. Based on that I can choose the material for boring bar.
Can anyone tell me is it possible to get hardness of material using LAMMPS software?
If possible please tell me the exact procedure.
You can definitely get hardness from MD simulations in lammps but however, there will be obvious size effects which you cannot ignore.
I don't think it is that simple. First of all, you need the perfect interatomic potential for whatever material you are dealing with. Otherwise the results will not be reliable. Usually atomistic simulations are used for obtaining an insight into the underlying mechanism while the exact numbers are not much relevant. In your case, it seems that you want to churn out some values from MD and then use it directly for actual experimental design. I am doubtful whether that is a very good idea.
