I would like to ask anybody about the suitable method for extraction of organic compounds (linear, aromatic) from hard and brown coal. If it is possible. I have coal samples of granulity of 2 mm and 4 um. Will be sufficient extraction with organic solvents (hexane, dichloromethane etc.) under ultrasonic agitation? Or is it necessary to use high temperature or microwave extraction? ......... I can not find a suitable article or review about extraction techniques for coal. Thank you for your time.

I'd consider using DCM and also toluene (good for extracting aromatic compounds)
Our experience has been that high coal soils extracted with ASE have consistently higher yields of polynuclear aromatic compounds and heavy aliphatic hydrocarbons than using other extraction techniques.
