It appears SDBs requires hydrographic chart for the calculation of the depth extinction parameters and for validation, etc. However, I can't yet get any such chart in my study area. I was wondering if there is anyway of going about getting the SDB without a reference bathymetry?
Any publications in this regard would be appreciated, especially methodologically explicit ones.

You can do it directly up to 40 meters depth depending on the clarity or turbidity of the water. Here is news link about NASA ICESAT-2 doing bathmetry from LiDAR:

Thanks very much Reuben. I will see how exactly this was conducted. Although I was hoping to use Landsat imageries and area of interest is shallow offshore but I will explore the papers and hopefully they will help.
