Carbon nanotubes usually have low quantum yield. Stability problem is another issue, not only with carbon nanotube but with other nanoparticles (i.e. gold and silver). Biomarkers play a very important role in diagnostics. I want to ask if we can we detect biomarkers by the help of nanoparticles in a complicated biological environment.
yes it is very much possible to detect bio-markers using Ag and Au nano-particles by using a technique called Surface enhanced raman spectroscopy. You can refer to papers by Zhang (published in JACS), I kim (published in J. of Molecular Structures in vol 1023). Basically the bio-marker gets attached to the surface of the nano-particle and then its Raman signature can be identified upon irradiating the nano-particle. There are loads of papers on this topic.
you can definitely use the Quantum dots for such purpose but make sure it has surface modified
in the same line of response, you can also detect these bio markers using conduction properties. for example, using electrical impedance spectroscopy.
