I have been undertaking a study for the last two years on metal deposition from a point source into a surrounding soil. The first year study showed that levels of heavy metals were high, significantly above recommended international level. That same year, pollution control method using filter bay collector that reduces emissions to less than 10mg/m3 was installed. Successive monitoring of the soil heavy metals showed that each season the levels of heavy metals reduced significantly and the latest findings after four seasons of pollution control indicated that the levels have almost reduced within international limits. My question now is that, is it possible for reduction to occur significantly without bioremediation intervention? And can leaching effectively reduce level of soil heavy metal contamination?
