My XRD results yielded points at CuO, Cu2O and Cu. However, my UV-Vis spectra only has one peak at around 580 nm which may or may not correspond to Cu since CuO also has a broad range. Is it possible for Cu spectra to mask the effects of Cu2O and CuO in UV-Vis? What could be the possible explanation for this?

Hi Kathy...in addition to previous answer,..... in my opinion, UV-Vis spectra of your case, only indicated there is a Cu2O and/or CuO absorption peak (in wavelength) in general Cu2O peak appeared at about 490 - 502 nm....and CuO form is indicated by the peak at around 600 - 760 (abroad absorption peak). Also, Cu2O form is unstable and easily change into CuO form even though it can be kept in that form.

The lower link is stated that the copper oxide nanoparticles are detected in the UV-Vis spectrum. But this contradicts the theory. It is necessary to study the spectrum of a pure sample.

We studied UV-vis spectra of CuO nanoparticles c.a. 5-15 nm (measured by XRD after centrifuging) and broad peak at c.a. 300-400 nm was observed. That is, CuO can not mask Cu peak. But there is a question about Cu2O. Moreover, positions of peaks as well as their widening may be different for different experimental conditions. This is very complicated question.

But if such an assumption: solution immediately after synthesis contents only CuNPs which can be oxidized at the procedure of concentration and preparing of the sample for XRD?
