While determining Pb, Ni, and Cd in a soil sample using AAS, I obtained some results that were lower than the blank result. The sample was digested using 2M HNO3 and diluted to 50 mL.

1. Is it possible for a blank to be higher than the sample result?

2. What could be some possible reason(s) to justify the discrepancy?

3. How could it be corrected if it was an error?

NB: The same reagent and distilled water was used in the sample and blank preparation.
