If you are interested in damage model for a less ductile metal, such as Ti64, high strength steel etc, you can consider the Johnson-Cook damage model nonetheless. If you are not planning to obtain them experimentally, you can reference them easily from various lattice papers.

Magnitude of load is more important. It's possible that failure doesn't happened. At the other hand, for some cases compressible loading makes tension in spacial location.

Also in failure due the compressive load usually is buckling, but static failure isn't impossible.

I suggest check loading and any deformation. In this way you can find what you should do.

In quasi-static compression tests, the structure goes under compressive loading for at least 50% strain (half of the structure is pressed). In this regard, the stress values are so prone to reach the ultimate point (Sut). By the way, you mean if buckling happens, damage model is not needed and stress values are below the ultimate point. Am I right?

If the stress/strain levels in any zone , in a material non-linear analysis exceeds the ultimate stress/strain, then we need to consider the damage and re-run the analysis, Usually steel may not reach damage state, as its vultimate stregth is very high as well as its % elongation. But Aluminium is prone to damage at least in local zones.
