The calibrator may help your analysis but it's a little difficult to get a sample with known copy number. I know there are places where you can buy such sample like Database of Genomic Variants (DGV) or the Human Random Control DNA (European Collection of Cell Cultures).
If you are using CopyCaller Software I believe you can still do the analysis if a calibrator sample is not present. The software can apply an algorithm that calculates copy number assignments maximizing the probability of the observed data with respect to a theoretical model.
Reliability of a calibrator sample could be assessed by plotting cycle-threshold as a function of DNA concentration, nevertheless I assume a prior knowledge of copy number is required for that as well. I was looking for a ready to use calibrator sample with known copy number variation, for my region of interest?
