I work with a rat model exposed to Cd, however their blood levels do not exceed the max mentioned in the WHO.

In which case, can I apply this parameter? Taking into account that it is a metal dose per milliliter of blood, it is a rate.

Hello,

It depends on your objective.

If you expose the rats with the maximal doses permitted for human, you will obtain very low concentrations in rats for two reasons :

- the rodents eliminate xenobiotics (drugs, toxics) much faster than humans

- the permitted doses in humans are calculated with safety factor so are much lower than the maximal doses producing no effect (NOAEL).

If you want to obtain in rats blood concentrations that produce effects, you have to administer much higher doses.
