I would strongly suggest that you consult with an IP lawyer on this matter through your institution. That is because it is an activity within the University and any responsibility would fall not only on you but on the institution.

One thing to check with counsel is on how to interpret the copyright law in Malaysia with respect to fair dealing and fair use. Each jurisdiction is unique in establishing the bounds of fair use so I would encourage legal advise.

That being said and with the caveat that I am not an IP professional in your jurisdiction is that, there is an exception that applies to your case. This is in the the section on the nature of copyright in ACT 332 COPYRIGHT ACT of 1987 that allows the exception for research purposes.

NOTE: As stated before do seek legal advise and permission from the University before doing anything.

The fact that it is the abstract being copied is irrelevant. An abstract is a copyright work. It all depends on the terms and conditions imposed by the publisher on your university regarding use of materials it subscribes to. Check with the head of library. If the licence terms allow such use, go ahead. If they do not, request permission from the publisher. If you go ahead and reproduce without permission then the publisher can cancel the subscription and your university will lose all access to the service.

In most cases, it will be illegal to copy the original text completely without proper permission and compelling arguments to do so. I would advise you to restrict copying to certain phrases in accordance with the citation rules.
