It was found in surface waters of middle Bay of Bengal during an April collection. I thought that it could be a broken part of dinoflagellate (Ceratium ranipes), but it may not correct. If anyone experienced such particles, kindly help to identify (Excuse for low resolution images).

It's much too small to be part of a flower. Maybe it's a spicule. Is this the only one you found?
Thank you. This is the full part which I got from the water samples. Only from Bay of Bengal I found such particles, not in Arabia Sea or other estuaries.
I found two types of spicules, 1 is above attached and another one type was small umbrella like structure at head. I followed Gregor Barclay's suggestion and searched in websites then only I recognized spicule types.

To be sure about your material it would be necessary to have more photos and more details. Any way, based on your photo, I don´t think that your material is microalgae.

Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions. These images were captured through FlowCAM before 5 - 6 months. The number of similar particles were also very less in the samples. I hadn't looked them in detail, while sample was analysed freshly. Now only I am classifying those images. As said by Dr. Gregor Barclay, these particles much similar with sponge spicules. We can see the similar pictures from websites already I sited above.

Your material comes from plankton samples and you need to do SEM studies to determine elemental/mineral composition of spicules and to see the ultrastructure (whether solid or with a hole). Spiral color bands seen on the spine shaft is rather interesting.
