Is increasing large scale fading coefficients across the cells causes pilot contamination in massive MIMO? When orthogonal pilots are used across cell?

we all know that if we increase large scale fading coefficient value then the performance decreases.. because of attenuation.. but in massive mimo environment, can it triggers the pilot contamination effect? n make the channel estimation performance more worst.. ??
again, we all know that increasing number of data samples increases the performance .. however, will this theory still work in massive Mimo scenario having pilot contamination effect and using increased value of large scale fading coefficients.. ?? i believe in an environment like that even if we increase the sample size the performance will not increase because of pilot contamination effect..
