Respected researchers,

I was requested from a Journal's associate editor to state whether a permission from the copyright holder was obtained for using few questions from a certain questionnaire. I did not use the whole questionnaire in my study and the work of the authors (copyright holders) whom I used some of their questionnaire questions is already cited in the manuscript? Is this mandatory if not the whole questionnaire was used?
