is it a preferred characterization to do so.
Ofcourse you may get primary estimation by UV spectra on semi conducting or Plasmonic NPs. Band gap is not going to change with the concentration. It will depend upon the size of the particles (not concentration). You may use other tools as well e.g. SEM, TEM and other nano characterizing tools. Your question is not clear. Give the name of material (solid or liquid?, metal or semiconductor...)
@Ravindra Dhar: in solid sample or in diffuse UV spectra you will get the highly compact molecule spectra. whereas in spectra of sample when it is suspended in the liquid solution it will give a different spectra. also as the concentration of sample increased in the liquid solution the spectra is affected, whether it is metal or semiconductor. i have tested the same in my lab with ZnO, Al2O3, SrO NP's
Highest absorbance value changes with the concentration of the solution but shift in the absorbance peak with respect to wavelength would not change (you can record the UV absorption spectra by varying the concentration) as band gap of the material is depend on the wavelength corresponds to maximum absorption you can use this method to identify the material formed.
