Is empathy psychological fuel to carry out the golden rule(treat others how you want to be treated)? Why? How? My answer: Yes because it is self-evident.
Emotional empathy is not fuel, but the ability to feel the client's pain. The therapist can feel the client’s pain or overwhelming emotions and choose a suitable intervention. Empathy according to Singer: is when emotions are shared with another, with the awareness that the others experience is the source. This is extremely valuable information, after which it is necessary for the therapist to use disidentification (see Psychosynthesis: A Collection of Basic Writings by Roberto Assagioli) and not to remain in a state of identification. Maybe even move to a state of compassion - that is, feel for the client , feeling concern for others and a wish to increase welfare (see definitions by Singer 2012, 2016) and to cognitive empathy and metallization (Fonagy) of the client in addition.
