Most of the higher educational institutions especially in developing countries are following a strict rule that without having a good CGPA you are not allowed to enroll yourself as an academician....What do you think about this issue?
First of all without providing valid recent reference it might be tough to state directly (Most of the higher educational institutions, especially in developing countries, are following a strict rule that without having a good CGPA you are not allowed to enrol yourself as an academician).
Look, being an academician, I am strictly opposing this statement. For the sake of argument and a few minutes time while, I am agreeing with this statement.
But, definitely, there is a specific CGPA requirement (if you say it needs to significant, then you should mention the range or level of significance) every institution follows to select an academician. And, seems to me the individual (applicant) who will apply for this, definitely s(he) can fulfil the so call CGPA requirement.
So, simply we can say CGPA might be the entry requirement of becoming academician but not significant predictor.
Now, Come to my point, CGPA only effects to become 1st, 2nd, 3rd (you need search a lot to find some great people who hold that 1,2,3 position in his past life but lots of examples you can get who threw form institution ) in our academic life. It is only a parameter to get an entry level job (whatever the job is, police/ bank employee/ mnc or academicians and so on). This is not because it presents a comprehensive idea of the candidate's skills to the employer, but to shorten the list of applications. Mostly, during job interviews, it has been observed that if a student graduates with a minimal or low CGPA to meet the circular pre-requisite, employers tend to focus on their skills instead of their grades. Nowadays, employers/corporations look for skills, qualities and experience; attributes that isn't always captured by one's CGPA.
Do not take it otherwise, an other words, your CGPA may get you to the door, but it is not going to close the deal. There are other important factors — your creativity, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, team spirit, decision making skills, and presentation and communication ability — that are likely to be far more relevant than the grades you received in your student life.
Finally, if any recruiter rares this concept to his mind s(he) has no minimum ability to become academicians rather he will spend his whole life in entry level position.
And the following links will help an individual to find out the antecedents to become an academician.
Good CGPA is a bonus for graduates to enter academician world. However, apart from good grade of excellent CGPA, other minimum requirement such as ability to conduct academic task-related will extremely helpful plus industry experience to teach the fresh graduates. For example, if you want to enter tourism and hospitality teaching scheme - to teach Culinary Art, hotel management, hospitality or tourism related program it is compulsory to have industry experiences.
Other requirement such as effective interpersonal skill, ability to deliver an attractive yet interactive lecture, tutorial and academic coaching / learning activity will be an advantage to future academician. Counselling skill will definitely boost you opportunity for teaching Gen X and Y esp those in College and University required human-nature talent to keep this cluster interest of our lectures / tutorial
