Factor analysis is essential for good research, when the independent factors determine the dependent factors i.e. prediction.   for example, In  organisational commitment, there is so many factors  influencing   the employees commitment.  After collecting the data,  researcher could not found  which factor is correlated with organisational commitment  as per his/her questionnaire.  Here factor analysis  essential one.

Factor analysis is used as a data reduction to get a small set of variables. It is applied, especially with exploration researches. 

There are two types of Factor Analysis:

- Exploratory Factor Analysis, which Summarize data by grouping correlated variables

- Confirmatory Factor Analysis, which is tested through SEM methods
