It is all evident and clear that BIM helps integrate all the required data at different phases of any project, hence it is proving to be very useful in IPD implementation. But, is is a mandatory attribute ? Can the challenges ( legal, organizational and technological ) to implement IPD be overcomed with any other solutions ? If yes, what are they ? If no, why?
I think it depend on which type of construction project that involves IPD. Larger projects seem benefit more from BIM system than smaller scale ones. For example, in a interior design and construction project, participants could be able to implement IPD by using their specialised softwares such as Rhino 3D, CostX, Microsoft Projects and others. So I think the biggest challenges would be to achieve cost effective project and avoid unnecessary over-investing
Yes Tung Pham I completely agree with you that implementation of BIM is project specific and it depends on the size and scope of the project. Would there be there any alternative approach for complex construction projects?
i think you need BIM as essential requirement if you want to achieve IPD benefits. BIM is not just a software. regards
Ammar Dhakil, thank you for the answer.Yes BIM is not just a software, in the reasearch that I have been doing, few journals mentioned that BIM is mandatory, where as few potrayed BIM to be extremely helpful but not mandatory..so I was curious as to what would be the alternative if BIM is not in the scenario.
Sahithi. Actually IPD as a method of contract need a collaboration enviroment to optimise its benefits. If you dont use BIM, i think you will decrease the expected benefits for using IPD. I hope you find the answer. Regards
