I am writing about people who degrade and humiliate others, and I'm looking for related research. Right now, I"m mostly interested in the victimizers, not the victims. Why does a person engage in these behaviors? The cruelty could be in the context of interpersonal violence, child abuse, sexual assault, bullying, torture, war crimes. I'm sure other contexts, too. All articles or book names or theoretical ideas will be most appreciated, in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Thank you!

It's the European COMMITTEE for the Prevention of Torture, actually.
But I don't think what they do is relevant to your research topic (their mandate is monitoring detention facilities in Council of Europe member states, not academic research). If my understanding is correct, you are primarily interested in the victimizer profile, so you'd be better off looking for criminological and victimological research. Look up "victim to victimizer" paradigm for papers that specifically address the relationship between childhood exposure to abuse and future abusive behavior. Also, look up "etiology of abusive behavior" or "causes of abusive behavior." I'm sure even a cursory search on the Internet is going to turn up quite a lot of results, so may want to narrow it down to a specific type of abuse you're researching (domestic violence, child abuse, elderly abuse, animal abuse, sexual offending, etc.). I want to answer my own question here and recommend the book by Lundy Bancroft, WHy Does He Do That, which isNOT a research book at all...but does discuss the psychology of abusive men.
I still have not found a good RESEARCH source on the psychology of people who humiliate others.
HI, I am working on an assignment on relational aggression in girls, between the age of 6 to 11 years of age, alas I am interested in the victims, have seen loads of research on bullies, but not that much on victims. olweus have quite a few publications on this..
