I want to complete a small study looking at the impact of the arts on Early Years children's non-cognitive learning and development. However, I think this will be so closely linked to cognitive impact that it will be hard to separate the areas. Is anyone aware of similar studies? - I have concerns about evaluation, measuring, variables and think similar studies would shed some light on this. I was thinking in terms of a small structured arts project linking music and art.

Some of the characteristics of mother-infant play that they describe in their abstract are: physical proximity and eye contact, synchronisation, and maternal mediation behaviors etc.

I went to a seminar on just that topic this afternoon. Two of my colleagues in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin - Professor Noirin Hayes, Professor Carmel O' Sullivan - along with Dr Lucie Corcoran (Dublin Business School) have just completed such a project, and are preparing it for publication.
